Holistic Faves

Hi guys! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. I know I did. Only 15 days until graduation! What even! I am so excited to graduate, but it’s definitely very bittersweet.

This week’s post is my monthly faves but of a different variety. This time I am sharing my favourite holistic products.

I know what you’re probably thinking. Selene is probably one of those wacky people who comment on IG posts saying that this holistic product cured her. But no - I am definitely not that person. I know holistic products aren’t a cure, but I believe they have a place in medicine.

I’ve always been interested in the holistic side of health care. I love finding natural remedies for things, and I’m more inclined to try something holistic over a manmade medication. I know holistic products won’t cure anything, but when you’ve been on Big Pharma meds for 5+ years, you just want something better for you that doesn’t have the big black box warnings on it. In my personal experience, holistic medicine works better for me if it’s things like stress, sleep, and anxiety. I did not do well on manmade medications for those issues, and I’ve found that a more holistic approach is better for me. I know this is not the case for everyone, and I am all for everyone doing what is best for them. So let’s dive right in, and maybe you’ll be inspired to try one of my recommendations.

Hey Girl, Sweet Dreams

While going through my chronic illness/mental health journey a few years ago, I always had a Big Pharma med to help ease my chronic pain/help me sleep. To be honest, I relied on those. Now that I’m better and have been off meds for roughly 6 months, I had to find an alternative for sleep. I came across this sleep supplement at the end of last year but never gave it a solid trial until recently. I have to say, I really like it. I like how all the ingredients are natural and not “manmade”. The bottle says to take 2 at bedtime, but it makes me too groggy the following day and takes me longer to wake up. With that in mind, I can take 2 when I can sleep in and 1 when I have to wake up early.

Apothecary

I’ve had my eye on the Apothekary powders for quite a while now. I took their online quiz (not necessary if you know what you want) and was matched with Chill The F* Out and Mind Over Matter. Because Apothekary’s products are a bit pricey, I recommend trying the 12-serving size before moving to the 48-serving size. If you’re also not a fan of the bitter, nutty taste of plant-based products, you can always take the recommended amount of each powder and cut it in half (which will also make it last twice as long).

I love putting Chill the F* Out and Mind Over Matter in hot chocolate. The cocoa powder's sweetness and rich flavour perfectly mask both products' bitter taste. I love using Chill the F* Out at the end of a long day. I call it my tranquillity hot cocoa because it truly does make me feel very calm and relaxed. It also makes sleeping better and easier. Mind Over Matter is excellent in the morning as a way to become more focused on what I need to get done.

Bach’s Rescue Remedy

I first tried Rescue Remedy when I was 11 and was on a 19-hour flight to India. At the time, I was dealing with many undiagnosed GI issues and anxiety (neither of those things were treated correctly/diagnosed until I was in my early adulthood), so being on a cramped plane for an extended period of time was my worse nightmare. I don’t recall if they helped my anxiety back then, but the name always stuck with me.

My anxiety was at its worst from ages 17-19, and Rescue Remedy was my saviour. Rescue Remedy are these little gummy pastilles you just let melt in your mouth. Somehow the ingredients in the pastilles and focusing on the taste of it always helped, and it’s something I recommend to everyone. It also comes in a spray version, but be warned that the spray has alcohol and tastes like such. If you buy the pastilles - the black currant flavour is the best. It is my holy grail product.

I hope this post was interesting for you. I always love learning about new products of any variety, and I’m always down to try something new.
