Mega Self-Care
Hello everyone. It’s March. Yep…that’s all I have to say. It’s March. big sigh
I’m so excited for this new blog post. I’m collaborating with my friend Deja from Breakroom Buddha. You probably remember her from our collaboration about the Law of Attraction last summer. If you don’t remember or you’re new here (thanks for checking out my page), here’s a refresher.
During this COVID-19 season, self-care has gained so much popularity in terms of talking about it and doing it. Well, that is precisely what Deja and I will be chatting about. We both have created a mega list of self-care. So let’s get right into the post, but before we begin, I want to explain what self-care is to me. Self-care, to me, goes beyond facials, body scrubs etc. and should be done daily. Self-care is doing whatever you need to do to feel good. That could mean unwinding from a long stressful day with a glass of wine. It could also mean having safe sex with your partner/self-pleasure. (Yes, I’m going there because we’re all adults here). Self-care is things you do to fulfil your mind, body and soul.
For me, self-care looks like facials and a good skincare routine, but it also looks like me singing/acting out musicals almost all the time. It looks like me setting boundaries and not letting people trample over them. Self-care looked like hour-long Skype calls with my significant other but also like weekly Girl Meets World marathons with a friend. Sometimes self-care to me looks like listening to my Gloomy Sunday playlist, singing and crying to release all my pent-up emotions. Self-care looks like avoiding things that trigger me and cuddling with Bella (my dog).
DISCLAIMER: As someone who believes in tolerance to all avenues in life, this post is not geared for specific groups of people (i.e. Christians, non-Christians etc.). This post is simply a list of things I believe are part of self-care, whether or not I do it in my personal life (that could be a whole other post). I am leaving my personal bias out and remaining impartial to the list I’ve made.
Mind (Brain)
Setting boundaries
Therapy
Mediation
Taking meds as directed
Spending less time on social media
Reading self-help books
Taking a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) class
Write yourself a love letter (or just a letter) to be read sometime in the future
Write yourself pep talk notes on your phone, so you can read them when you need a little pick me up
Body (Physical)
Eating nutritious foods
Not restricting what you eat
Getting regular exercise, even something as simple as stretching or yoga
Taking vitamins regularly
Facials, body scrubs, baths etc
Go to the doctor if you feel sick instead of putting it off
Know that mental health is just as important as physical health. If you’d take off a day or two of work for a physical illness, do the same if you feel mentally unwell
Load up on Vitamin C
Soul (Heart)
Online church services
Daily devotional
Writing in a journal
Spend time alone
Listening to your favourite music
Watching your favourite movies
Removing toxic people from your life
Dancing it out
Doing a daily oracle or tarot reading
Talking to a trusted friend
Spending time in nature
Treat yourself like you would your best friend (if you wouldn’t say mean things to her, don’t say them to yourself)
Going to a rage room (basically, a place where you pay for a certain amount of time, and during that time, you get to break all kinds of things. It’s an entertaining way to get anger out and release pent-up emotions).
And that concludes my list mega list of self-care. Please do save the checklist I made so you can refer to it when needed. I hope you all enjoyed this post. If you did, don’t forget to give it a like, share it with your friends leave me a comment sharing any self-care ideas you have. Make sure you check out Deja’s post on self-care and follow her on Instagram. As always, sending you all the light and love in this world. See you next week!
