My Home News: Fall 2022 - Present Day Update

Hello, my loves. I hope 2023 has started off as a good year for you. I have been swamped lately, and some things (like my blog) have had to take a backseat. But nevertheless, I am back with a life update. I don’t know how consistent my blog posts will be, but I will try to have at least one post a month.

Foundations in Counselling

End of October, I began my first of two prerequisite classes for my MAC program. Foundations In Counselling (FIC) was described as “general psych on steroids,” and I would say that is a fair assessment of the class. I remembered a lot of what we were learning from when I took Gen Psych back in the day, but there were things I don’t remember learning or very briefly touched on. I feel like General Psych was more challenging than this class, mainly because in Gen Psych, we had exams, and for this class, we didn’t. We had weekly quizzes that were super easy. I finished FIC I with an “A” right before Thanksgiving, and FIC II started the week of Thanksgiving. Between working on my class, I substitute-taught as much as I could.

A Little More Auditions & Casting

In November, I auditioned for a local mini-series called A Little More. The show is about a depressed college student named Alma who is on the brink of killing herself. She befriends a colleague with bipolar disorder who helps her reconnect to herself and find her place in the world. I auditioned for the role of Alma and for the female therapist. I was hoping for the role of therapist because how ironic would it be that I play on TV what I am studying to become in real life? Well, I got cast as Alma, which I am still in shock over. When I filmed myself tape, I didn’t think to “act” as a character; I said the lines as I would as Selene. Somehow that translated well enough to me getting the lead. This is my first leading role in a tv show. Before this, all of my screen roles were as a background actor. We were initially going to film this in December, but due to scheduling conflicts, it got pushed back to February 2023.

December

It was a good thing filming got delayed because I got sick at the beginning of December. Really sick. Overnight I got the flu, plus bronchitis (typical for whenever I get sick), laryngitis, and an ear infection. The latter of the two I haven’t had since childhood. The ear infection was by far the worst. My balance and equilibrium were thrown off entirely; standing up made me extremely dizzy, so I was basically bedridden. Being bedridden means, I can’t do light therapy for my seasonal depression, which means I get really depressed. I had to do two courses of antibiotics for bronchitis and ear infection before I could do prednisone for my cough. Unfortunately, the tapering course of prednisone did nothing for my cough. In January, I had to do the fixed-dose course of prednisone again. At the point of writing this, It’s the end of Jan, and my cough has just now gone away.

The week I was really sick was the last week of my FIC II class. I was prepared to forgo the essay for the week due to how sick I was. I would have still passed the course but not with an A, as I wanted. Thankfully by day 3 of antibiotics, I was feeling good enough to write the essay, and, praise the Gods, I ended up with an A in FIC II. I am incredibly proud of that because when I was a psychology major at FPU, my psych classes were much more complicated, and getting As was rare. So the fact that I got two As in a MASTERS psychology program is a testament to how smart I actually am.

January

At the beginning of January, I jetted to Washington, DC, for the 19th Q Christian Fellowship conference. The conference theme was “Liberated to Love,” with the theme verse being Isiah 61: 1-3. There is a lot I can say about how fantastic the conference was, but that would make this blog post way longer than it needs to be. I did make a video about the conference, so if you would like to know more, click here.

The rest of my January has been trying not to go mental due to how much free time I have. Subbing has slowed down a lot; filming and my grad classes don’t begin until February. I have been binging Ginny & Georgia (I love the show so much). I hope to finish the second book in the His Fair Assassin series before my grad classes begin (Feb 27th).

And that concludes my life update. If you enjoyed this post, make sure you like, comment, and share this post. Follow me on social media (listed below). As always, sending you all the light and love in this world. See you next time!
