Time Management

Welcome back, loyal readers. I hope everything is going well for you. I’ve been just chugging along. The city near me has been slowly opening up, and I so badly want to go out, but I’m too scared to, so I’ll continue to stay in my safe little bubble until I feel safer about going out (this is not to say that I’m not aware of the craziness this world is in right now, I am very aware of it, me staying in my little bubble has to do with COIVD-19, which hasn’t gone away yet.

All of that is beside the point of this week’s post. In the fall of 2019, I did a four-day-long takeover on Instagram for a friend of mine. I shared my day-to-day life as a working actor who is also in college. On one of my posts, I asked what blog posts people wanted to see, and someone asked me to do a post on time management.

I will be 100% honest when I say that I am the absolute worst at time management. Especially right now, as I am just starting to create a routine for school, work, and theatre. There is an approach to time management that I really like and have been actively trying to implement in my life. It’s the 40-30-20-10 approach or, in my case, 50-30-20. I will be going over that today and how I use this approach.

50% of my time - theatre & school

  • researching plays/musicals

  • going to auditions

  • acting, singing, and dancing lessons

  • blog work

  • classwork for my major

  • seeing shows

  • going to rehearsals/shows

40% of my time - income (not related to theatre)

  • looking for work

  • going to interviews

  • going to a job*

  • *(percentage may change depending on how long the shifts are)

30% of my time - personal care/relaxing

  • hygiene

  • exercising

  • cooking

  • cleaning

  • hanging out with friends

  • travelling

  • doctors apps

  • social media

  • tv watching

  • reading

  • sleeping

Weekly Breakdown 12 hr days

  • 50% - 5 hours

  • 40% - 4 hours

  • 30% - 3 hours

I hope this post helps you with learning time management and hopefully, gives you insight on how I manage my time as a working actor and a college student.
