23 Thoughts About Turning 23
Guess whose birthday is today? That's right. Points to self, this girl. I am officially 23 (but according to my mum's standards, I have to wait until I was born…checks watch only 9 hours and 17 minutes to go).
Today's post is 23 thoughts about turning 23…or, well, my life until now. Some of you might relate to them, and some might be relevant to only me. Either way, I hope you enjoy this fun little post.
1. Pardon my french, but where the fuck has the time gone? Like seriously? It seems like just yesterday, I was a 13-year-old telling everyone I was 16.
2. Wait, I was 13 a decade ago…
3. In my head, I still feel like I'm 15, but I have the life of an adult. I (for the most part) live on my own, I have a child (aka Bella), and I'm in college doing adult things in preparation for an adult career.
4. I remember, a few years ago, I asked a guy I knew from theatre how old he was, and he said, "23," and I thought, "I wonder what I'll be like at 23."
5. When I was 6, I loved pretending it was my 26th birthday and that I was going to South America. I have three years left to save up for that trip, and if I want to make my six-year-old golden birthday dreams come true, I need to learn how to budget my money.
6. All the silly little fights I had with friends, all the things I thought I would never get over or forgive, I've gotten over and forgiven. Time heals almost all wounds.
7. I remember, as a kid thinking that tattoos were for criminals and that they weren't attractive at all. Who knew that adult me would now have four of them, three of which are in very visible places…
8. If I had known at eight years old that when I turned eighteen, I would start to become "a well-known actor" in my hometown and the city near me and still be "a well-known actor" five years later, I would never have believed it.
9. I still hate looking younger than I am. That hasn't changed since people started mistaking me for someone younger. (Don't even think about commenting, "When you're 40, you'll appreciate looking younger."). Seriously though, if I had a dollar for every time I got a "you'll appreciate it when you're 40" comment, I'd have enough money to pay for the plastic surgery I need to look my age.
10. It's totally normal to wear makeup as an adult. Some adults do wear makeup, and some don't. Wearing it (or not) doesn't make me any less of an adult.
11. Even though I love my body and am mostly comfortable with it…I do kinda wish I had the body I had at 19…well, maybe not the lightweight part of it, but how it looked. If my stomach fluff went away, I'd be thrilled.
12. Many of my weird little kid dreams have come true as an adult…
13. You were obsessed with Twilight at thirteen years old, weren't you? Ha! (That hasn't changed a decade later).
14. Taking ballet seriously at age fourteen was the best and worst decision ever.
15. When I was sick a few years ago, I never thought I would make it to today. Perseverance is key…
16. I am much more confident now than I was when I was younger. I finally achieved that "don't care confidence" I wanted when I was 21.
17. You got a 4.0 last semester. You are capable of that. And you are capable of doing it again. Imagine graduating college with a 3.9 GPA…
18. Remember when you'd daydream about graduating college…well, you've got five months left. Let that sink in. Reread #18 as needed.
19. You finally did what you've always wanted to do; you MOVED AWAY!! And then moved back…but still, you moved away. That shows you that you can do it.
20. I wonder what I'll be like at 25…(sorry, couldn't resist).
21. Coffee is life. So is wine. And beer. I should probably drink more water…
22. It's okay to like the things you enjoyed as a kid. It makes being an adult suck less. Keep the "childlike wonder" that Mr Thorson wrote in your high school yearbook.
23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! I'm 18 with 05 years of experience.
I know this post is random compared to my regularly scheduled content, but I decided to at least celebrate turning 23 somehow on my blog. I celebrated my birthday with my friends last week by going out to dinner. Today, I'm going to church because I like going and learning new things, even if I don't necessarily agree with everything they believe in. When I get back, I'm having brunch with my family before my bestie comes over. We're gonna watch the entire Twilight saga because she's never seen it! And then when our other friend gets off work, we'll have dinner. The Trio will finally be together again!
